What’s in a Name?

“We are in the business of environmental repair — not environmental politics.”

So says Eddie Bishop of Environmental Development Services, a Dargaville based earthmoving and contracting business.

“We obviously go by the acronym EDS in our day to day business,” said Eddie. So you can be pretty sure we were surprised at reports EDS was taking the Kaipara District Council to the Environment Court!”

In fact the Environmental Defence Society, an Auckland based political lobby group, also knows as EDS for short, is taking the council to task over the proposed new District Plan.

“So when the odd customer heard about the defence society action, they came to the wrong conclusion that it was us,” said Eddie.

“But no, we are in the environmental protection and repair business, operating trucks and diggers in the Kaipara region. I’m Dargaville born and bred and into providing a top job of work — with no politics involved.”

Dargaville-based EDS was responsible, among a wide variety of jobs in the region, for the cleanup and repair of the Omamere slip, which is now recovering with re-growth.
