Dargaville’s regatta was made possible by the input of many of our local business leaders — now the boating club is giving thanks in a big way

A boatload of gratitude

The Northern Wairoa Boating club has hit upon a novel way to say thanks to all the generous sponsors who made their 2019 river regatta such a success.

More than 40 local businesses from Dargaville contributed to the prize pool and to the running of the very popular event, which saw boaties from all around the Kaipara Harbour join together for a series of fun races and challenges, followed by dinner at the riverside headquarters of the club.

NWBC Commodore Janice Cleaver says that without this public support, events like the regatta would not be possible.

“It’s all about giving a little bit back, to those who have done so much for our club and its patrons,” she says. “That’s why we thought it would be a good idea to put on a dinner and a winter function for all our supporters.”

Commodore Janice says that the plan to invite all those business sponsors, as well as all club members and their guests, to a winter dinner and live music concert came from the success of the NWBC’s roast meal nights and the popularity of their kitchen staff. “Sharing the evening view of the river and a hot meal is our way of saying thanks for a great relationship with our townsfolk.”
