The ever-popular charity auction run by the Ruawai Lions Club has been held at Kaipara Kumara for more than 30 years

Auction a source of pride

by Jill Dickie

The annual Ruawai Lions charity auction is being held once again from the Kaipara Kumara forecourt, referred to as a bargain-hunters event for more than 30 years. Trade stalls will begin from 9am and the auction 10am, on Saturday, March 16.

“There is something for everybody — lots of bargains, tasty food from Paparoa Lions’ caravan and an event not to be missed,” said project organiser, Lion Jim Simpson.
A huge variety of goods will be auctioned including sporting equipment, furniture, electrical products and a racing lawn mower, with more items still to be delivered.

The club is grateful to their many loyal sponsors who have also donated items for the auction, such as hairdressing services, and loads of fertiliser, metal or limestone. “Come along and see the Lions in action. We have members and volunteers all working together for the benefit of our community,” said club president, Rosemary Webb.

Proceeds from the event provide for many different community causes, in particular, an annual Senior Citizens’ Christmas function, which is free to participants.
