Call for creative contestants

by Andy Bryenton

The Kaipara District’s premier competition for up and coming film-makers is back again for 2019, with entries now open across a range of categories.

Previous years have seen a broad scope of creative content from entrants as young as primary school age, spanning documentary, comedy and science fiction, among other themes.

Organisers at the Dargaville Community Cinema Charitable Trust are enthusiastic about another year of what has become a firm feature of the artistic calendar.

“We have two categories; non-fiction or fiction, covering any subject, each category has two divisions; open and school age. This year we have a special category for primary and intermediate school age film-makers as well. It is for a very short (three minutes maximum) film that has an environmental or commercial message.”

As in previous years, contestants will get to see their finished work played on the big screen before prizes are awarded by a panel of judges. There is no fee to enter, and a sizeable prize pool up for grabs thanks to the generosity of the competition’s sponsors.

The message from both previous winners and event organisers is clear — grab your friends, grab a camera and get creative.
