Cannabis charges laid

Four men have appeared in Whangarei District Court on drugs charges following a police raid near Aratapu and the seizure of cannabis plants in five greenhouses.
More than 20 police executed a search warrant in Oturei Settlement Rd, near Aratapu, on January 16. Some 4,000 plants were discovered, some of which were seized and others sprayed with weed killer. The police team worked in the area for three days.
Appearing before Judge Deidre Orchard were Dang Gia Cu, 45, address unknown, Nhat Quan Nguyen, 20, of Mount Wellington in Auckland, Minh Nhat Nguyen, 24, of Clover Park Auckland, and Chu Trong Thanh, 44, address unknown. An interpreter was used to explain proceedings.
They were jointly charged with possession of cannabis for supply and cultivating cannabis. An interpreter was used to explain proceedings, and they were remanded in custody without plea until February 24.
