Family fun and Christmas spirit were the order of the day at last year’s highly successful Christmas in the Gardens

Christmas fun by the riverside

This December Dargaville’s Taha Awa Riverside Gardens will once again play host to a family variety concert with a festive theme. The 2019 Christmas in the Gardens roll-call is packed with new entertainment, as well as traditional sounds of the season.

“Bring the whole whanau along on Saturday, December 14,” is the message from event organiser Pauline Taylor. She has worked alongside a dedicated group to make this a possibility, not the least of whom are the many entertainers who have stepped forward to spread some holiday cheer.

“There will be at least five new performers on stage this year, along with the Dargaville High School kapa haka group, Tongan cultural group and some further surprises.” The action begins from 5.30pm, when the folks from Circus Kumarani will be in attendance, helping entertain early arrivals at the gardens with circus skills on display.

At 6pm the curtain goes up on a family-friendly evening of entertainment, culminating in a segment of well-known seasonal carols to sing along to.

Pauline encourages families to bring a blanket and cushions and have a relaxing summer evening together.

There will be a sausage sizzle on-site, raising money toward next year’s event and its associated costs.

Patrons are advised to come by early, as previous years have proven that this is a very popular event indeed.
