Students work toward both an NZQA accreditation and the skills to chart a secure financial course in business and life

Financial literacy building businesses

by Andy Bryenton

A free, NZQA accredited course in financial literacy, money management and investment is coming to Wellsford for eastern Kaipara residents.

Organisers say that this vital information has helped businesses to thrive and new endeavours to start up successfully.

The comprehensive NZQA level three New Zealand Certificate in Money Management goes far beyond budgeting and delves into planning an economic future, investment, insurance, taxes and more.

Course organiser and experienced tutor Penny Smith of Pennys Worth has moved to the local area after spending 15 years in north Auckland in a financial mentoring and teaching role.

Classes are funded by the Tertiary Education Commission and administered by Te Wananga o Aotearoa, so there are no fees at all for NZ citizens and residents — textbooks and study materials are provided.

The course runs for 20 weeks, covering all the things an entrepreneur or investor needs to know about navigating the world of money management.

To fit in with the schedule of those already working, classes will run from 6–9pm each Thursday and are hosted in Wellsford from July 25.

The aim of both Penny and the course — creating wealth in our region through encouraging business, investment and fiscal intelligence.
