New fire station officially open
by Andy Bryenton
Mangawhai’s volunteer firefighters have a new base of operations, with the official opening of their new station by Fire and Emergency New Zealand chairman Paul Swain and high-ranking members of our Northland brigades last Thursday. The station’s official opening was also attended by Mayor Jason Smith, Ngati Whatua Iwi and their delegates Mataua Fraser Toi and Cherie Povey, Fire and Emergency Deputy Chief Executive Brendan Nally, Fire and Emergency NZ regional manager Ron Devlin and as well as brigade members and their friends and family. The newly-operational station was put to the test during proceedings as firefighters responded to an alarm even as the ceremony progressed.
