The annual Dargaville Wearable Arts extravaganza has become a red letter day in the calendar of our local creative community. Last year’s show was bigger and brighter than the one before, and plans are afoot for 2019’s showcase of artistic style to be more focussed, streamlined, visually spectacular and dynamic.
With three categories spanning a range of creative inspirations, contestants will have ample opportunity to let their imaginations fly free. Our Natural Environment returns as a popular section — taking inspiration from the vistas of sea and sky, forest and farmland. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle puts mundane man-made materials into a new context, turning them from trash to treasure. It’s all about seeing the potential in what others throw away and making a statement for a sustainable future.
Meanwhile, the Avant Garde category pushes the envelope of design and blurs the line between fashion and modern art. In this category, anything goes, and designers are encouraged to test the limits of their vision and the materials at hand to bring forth the beautiful and the bizarre.
Being involved in the Dargaville Wearable Arts experience is both rewarding and inspiring — working alongside designers, models and stage production specialists to bring your vision to a live audience is a real thrill. If you think you have what it takes to make your creation come alive for 2019, it’s time to start planning. Entries are open now and close on the June 14, or when 45 designers have accepted the challenge.
Don’t delay — take the opportunity to make your imagination come to life. Visit dargavillearts.co.nz/events and download further information and an entry form, and show the world what you can achieve.
