Two Dargaville mums have started a soup stall at The Dargaville Riverside Markets. The difference with this new venture is that they are giving their soup away for free.
With a choice of vegetable or pumpkin, the Dargaville Soup Mums have come to every second market, for the last six weeks. The ladies decided to make the free soup to help out anyone who needs it and “we just thought it would be a great way to meet people in the community,” said Heather Hobson.
“It makes people happy, so that’s a big part of it too.” said Rae Mitchell. At this stage the ladies plan to only run their stall over winter, “although I’ve got some ideas about summer as well, but we’ll see,” said Heather. The soup ingredients have so far come as donations from friends, and Countdown have donated buns. Heather and Rona Mitchell, Rae’s daughter, make the soup.
The ladies both said “we’ve not had anyone take a cup of soup without a smile. Thats our payment.”
