Neigh-bouring together

The Ararua Hall Committee is holding their annual horse trek fundraiser this year and want to share their riding country with as many people as possible

The Ararua Hall Committee is holding their annual horse trek fundraiser on Saturday, March 17 and organisers are inviting anyone with a horse to take part.

Committee secretary, Beth De Groot, says this event is their largest fundraiser for the year and helps to pay for hiring the hall, insurance, maintenance and holding other regular community events such as farewells, cross fit and games nights.

“Come along and have some fun,” says Beth. “We are a bit out of the way, but have a look around our community.

We have some great riding country out here.”

The trek will start at the hall and travel over some local farmland for around three to four hours.

“It is a different route to last year’s one,” said Beth. “Last year we did a half course where people could turn around at the drink station, if they didn’t want to ride the whole way. This trek is suitable for beginners and intermediate riders, but they should be confident on a horse.”

The hall will be open from 9am for registrations and the trek will leave at 10.30am. Tickets are $30 per adult or $10 for those under 16. Payments can be made in cash or cheque. Email araruacommunity@gmail.com to register or for more information.
