Walking tracks closed

The Paparoa Lions Club has closed the town’s bush walkway until further notice, due to extremely wet conditions and concerns over the spread of kauri dieback disease.

Also closed until further notice is the Department of Conservation’s Lookout Track in Waipoua Forest, which connects the visitor centre with the forest lookout.

Two other tracks are closed for the month of July to enable DOC contractors to complete construction work.

These are the Kauri Bushmans Walk, off Sterling road, between Matakohe and Paparoa, and Tokatoka Scenic Reserve track off Tokatoka road. Upon completion, further tracks will be closed systematically for track upgrades, which will include gravel, retaining walls, stairways, handrails and boardwalks.

Construction work will take approximately 24 weeks to complete.
