DOC volunteers wanted

DOC community ranger Sapphire Maunsell with biodiversity ranger Alana McLeod preparing for the volunteer day

The Department of Conservation is inviting environment enthusiasts to join them for a volunteer day on Friday, July 13 at Trounson Kauri Park Reserve.

The day will incorporate planting flax, mahoe, coprosma robusta, kahikatea and mapou and spending time observing flora and fauna.

The more volunteers that attend, the more trees will be planted.

The area set aside for the plantings is protectively fenced and retired from farming. Sturdy footwear, appropriate clothing, a spade and a bottle of water should be brought along, and lunch will be provided.

Those interested should meet at DOC Kauri Coast office, 150 Colville Road at 9.15am.

Limited transport is available, and bookings close July 11.
