Two young offenders allegedly burgling a Dargaville retail outlet have been apprehended thanks to a quick-thinking citizen.
Late in the night of Wednesday, July 25, a member of the public saw movement inside a farm supply store on Edward Street, Dargaville and phoned police.
Police surrounded the store and apprehended two males, 14 and 15 years old.
The 15-year-old has appeared before the Youth Court on a burglary charge.
The 14-year-old is assisting police with a number of enquiries regarding offending across Dargaville in the last four months. He has been referred to Youth Aid. Sergeant Garth Mackay, Dargaville Police Station, said the good result was down to a private citizen’s quick action and sound investigatory practice by constables Curnow and Morris.
“We’d like to thank this member of the public for speaking up when they saw something suspicious.
“This is a great reminder for people to call police if they see something they know isn’t right. We will be able to step in and take appropriate action.”
