Final hurdle approaches

Baylys Beach Community Trust chairman, Graeme Ramsey

A large attendance is expected at the public hearing for a new community centre at Baylys Beach, planned for both community use and the surf life saving club.

Kaipara District Council is hosting the hearing for those who indicated they wished to be heard at the time of submission.

The meeting will begin at 10am, Monday, October 8 at the Northern Wairoa Golf Club, Baylys Coast Road.

The Baylys Beach Society and Baylys Beach Community Trust invite all members of the public to attend.

“So many people have supported this development for so long now, this is their opportunity to be present for this final stage of the KDC process, and hear the submissions in person,” said BBS chairperson, Cheryl Carmichael.

The trust has been committed for more than two years to begin work on the community centre, thereby facilitating the wishes of a generous benefactor who provided full funding of the development.

Trust chairman, Graeme Ramsey, stated it had been a long, very costly and frustrating process to date.

“Thankfully we will soon have a final decision. We are grateful for the support we have had from local people. Their encouragement has helped motivate us over the last two years.”

The commissioner hearing the submitters will make a decision within 15 days from the hearing, and BBS and the trust are hopeful of a positive outcome.
