Dargaville Wearable Arts winner, Winter Maiden

The Kaipara Lifestyler Supreme Award at the 2018 Dargaville Wearable Arts was presented to designer Mayhla Howells. Her winning entry, worn by model Meeha, entitled Hinetakurua (Winter Maiden) also won the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle award. The bodice was sewn from a plastic sack and embellished with snowflakes from Christmas tinsel, the cloak used traditional whatu techniques utilising recycled blind cord and scrap fabrics, the front skirt panel from weaving waste fabric and yarn, and the remaining whatu panels were made from supermarket bags.
