Recognising long service

Members of the Dargaville team, Joy Martin, Dacia White and Pauline Taylor

After more than 30 years association with the 1st Dargaville Company of the Girl’s Brigade, local resident Dacia White is being farewelled as her and husband Colin will leave Dargaville permanently. The company acknowledged her years of commitment at their recent awards evening.

Dacia started within the Girl’s Brigade organisation as a six-year-old, completing her girl’s badges and enjoying the comradeship over the years.

Her lifelong association saw her awarded with a 30-year service award in 1998, and she has remained until now giving her time, support and accountancy assistance, meaning her total service has been more than 50 years.

“She is an inspiration and a good sounding board. She has been faithful, tireless and loyal, and we will miss her,” said team leader, Paula Taylor.

Dacia’s mother was also a member of Girls Brigade, and Dacia and Colin’s daughter attended the Dargaville Company receiving her Queen’s Award. She now serves as a captain and Queen convenor in Hamilton. More than 60 girls attend 1st Dargaville Company.

“We have had a fantastic year with the girls, and our programme has been kept relevant and fun,” said Paula.
