The Dargaville Christmas Parade on December 8 is promising to be a brilliant spectacle and locals, families and visitors are invited to line Victoria Street to watch the decorated floats cruise by. Major sponsor, Ritchies, recently handed over a large cheque to the Dargaville Lions towards prize money for the entries.
It is the first time Ritchies have been involved in sponsorship of the parade. “We are happy to participate and pleased the company can give something back to the community,” said operations supervisor, Dawn Ironside.
The Dargaville Lions is also grateful to their other sponsors, First National and My Accountants. The theme of A Colourful Christmas has inspired extra entries this year.
“Entries are looking good,” said committee chairman for the Christmas parade, Noel Moran.
After the four judges have completed their scoring, cash prizes will be awarded to the top three entries: fourth place will receive a free entry to the 2019 parade and a supermarket voucher to the best-decorated mobility scooter.
The parade enters Victoria Street around noon from the Northern Wairoa Boating Club end, travels the length and returns to finish at the gates of the Riverside Gardens.
Wardens will be monitoring public safety along the route, although there were no inappropriate behaviours reported during last year’s parade.
