Walking and hiking enthusiasts are invited to book a place for their boots for the 20th Mangawhai Walking Weekend to be held from March 28 to March 31. Organisers of the event have planned more than 30 events for the weekend and walks are graded from easy to challenging.
The variety of trails enables walkers to explore the region from the banks of the Kaipara to Waipu, and south as far as Goat Island and to meet and interact with fellow participants who travel for the event.
The weekend includes time to explore the bush-covered Brynderwyn ranges, an afternoon ramble around the picturesque estuary loop track along the cliff top and returning to the shore, being entertained by professional performers waiting in hidden locations along the trail. Weather permitting, a trip to the popular Waipu Caves will be included. On Saturday the programme is planned to finish in time for attendees to prepare for song and dance at the Mangawhai Food and Wine Festival. Other easy walks around Mangawhai will continue on Sunday before settling into a 20th-anniversary celebration lunch.
Many of the easier walks are designed to offer a memorable experience enjoying gardens, artworks, historical insights and afternoon teas, with around 150 informative and entertaining guides on hand to introduce what Mangawhai has to offer. Online bookings are open now at mangawhaiwalking.co.nz.
