Christine Bygrave QSM

One for the team

Mangawhai community stalwart, Christine Bygrave, credits the people she works and volunteers with for her QSM award in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

“It is such an unexpected honour but a really lovely one, but something that doesn’t happen without a team,” she said. “We must give credit to them.”

Mrs Bygrave received the award for services to the community in and around Mangawhai, most recently with the Mangawhai Historical Society where she has been involved since the inception of the museum project, and she continues as chair of the museum board, as well as a trustee of the Pioneer Village project situated next door. A member of the Mangawhai Golf Club for three decades, she was president from 2003 to 2004 and led the celebrations for the club’s silver jubilee.

Organ music and singing, pony club activity and school leadership as chair of the Otamatea High School Board of Trustees from 1983 to 1988 have also led to her recognition with a Kaipara District Council Citizens Award in 2018.

“No community work is possible without the support of others and for me, my husband Bill and our family as well,” she says.
