Nigel, Donna and Regan Randell say farewell to their loyal customers after 22 years serving the motorcycling community of Dargaville

Saluting an era of service

by Andy Bryenton

It’s the end of a 22-year era of service to the farming and motorcycling public, as Randell’s Motorcycles in central Dargaville announce their imminent closure this week.

The well-respected local business has been an important part of Dargaville’s status as a rural support hub; repairing quad bikes and off-roaders through many generations of technological improvements. The Randell’s name has been associated with some big brands in the business, such as Suzuki and more recently Can-Am, but the skill of the team in the workshop has been a blessing for owners of all makes and models during the years. In addition to bikes with motors, Randell’s were also for many years the source in town for bicycle repairs and service.

Perhaps what made this family run business so unique was the way in which husband and wife team Nigel and Donna Randell combined the pressures of running a successful motorcycle operation with their passion for competitive sports. Both are acclaimed, award-winning bodybuilders who have competed both here and abroad. Current title holders in their respective classes, the gymnasium they built in their home is currently ranked as the nation’s best.

While it’s the end of the era as this icon of the business landscape closes, there is ample hope that the specially designed-for-purpose motorcycle workshop and showroom will find new ownership. The Randell’s team wish to thank their loyal customers during the years, their supporters, suppliers, neighbours in the business community and all those who have commended their services.
