Santa’s flight plan confirmed

Santa parades are confirmed for all across the region, with a busy schedule laid out through the next month for the Man in Red, Father Christmas himself. The festive events run from November 30 through to December 21.

First up is Wellsford’s Christmas parade, which hits the main street on November the 30, at 10.30am. Organisers promise a wide range of festive floats culminating in the arrival of our celebrity guest from the north pole.

“It’s a busy time of the year, which means it’s great that the parade organisers around the Kaipara have all gotten in touch with my elves early,” says Santa, speaking via long-distance satellite.

“With events in Dargaville, Maungaturoto, Mangawhai and Dargaville I’ll be trialling some new air-conditioned red suits in an attempt to beat the summer heat!”

Dargaville’s big parade takes place on December 7 in Victoria Street, from noon. It’s followed up by a massive Whanau Fun Day at the town’s municipal swimming pools, supported by the region’s Tamariki Collective, a bunch of civic-minded organisations and businesses who will put on a feast of games, activities, entertainment and of course a sausage sizzle.

Mangawhai’s Santa parade follows on December 15 at the Heads end of town, with the festivities starting from 10am. There will be carols in the park that evening from 5pm to make this a complete family day of holiday cheer. Finally, Maungaturoto has the honour of presenting the final local Christmas parade of the season, on December 21, just before Saint Nick heads back to home base to get kitted out for the big night.

This year the Christmas festival begins at 4pm and continues into the evening until 7pm.
