Win tickets to a ‘big boys’ 21st

by Andy Bryenton

Looking back on 21 years there’s been a lot of expansion at the annual Big Boys Toys expo. The premier event for blokes, with its technology, supercars, motorcycles, power tools and daredevil stunt riders has seen a lot of changes, but now at its ‘coming of age’ — it’s bigger and better than ever.

Cars on display for the masses this year include the new GR Supra from Toyota, Mad Mike’s drift racing supercar, the Red Bull ‘Nimbul’ Lamborghini, the General Lee (Dodge Charger RT) from the original Dukes of Hazzard, the all-electric Audi e-Tron, a super-fast bright yellow Ferrari Enzo, and a host of other classics and exotics. There’ll be bikes galore as well, with a live ‘chopper build-off’ going down between two top motorcycle craftsmen, and new machines from the likes of Royal Enfield, Suzuki and Harley Davidson.

Enjoying the auto artistry is only one part of this show. There’s also a massive strongman competition pitting true giants of the sport against each other in tests of toughness. You can channel your inner Viking and try out axe throwing, or watch the pros at this lumberjack sport of old. Marvel at the precision of the operators in the construction zone, test-drive e-vehicles on Electric Avenue or relax with some delicious food as the stunt riders of the action arena defy gravity on everything from BMX bikes to full-sized Harleys.

In between, there’s plenty of technology to experience, from the latest in gaming and VR through to gear for the ultimate garage. Ford Tools will be out there in force, not just offering a massive range of options for the workshop, but also celebrating the Ford legacy in racing as the new movie Ford v Ferrari documents the epic 1966 Le Mans 24 hours.

It all happens on November 1, 2 and 3 this year; Friday through Sunday of full-noise action. We’re giving away three double passes to the show for our readers. Find the FIVE racing helmet icons hidden in this edition, and tell us the page numbers they appear on. Email your answers with a full name and phone number to competition@integrity.nz. Draw held Tuesday, 29 October, tickets will be posted, contest open to all (one entry for each email address) except employees of Integrity Community Media and their immediate families.
